When Self-Improvement Goes Too Far
The self-help spiral
So many of our journeys start the same—an urge for change, recognizing the need for growth, and then mass consumption of everything self-help. From workbooks to podcasts, seminars, and every bit of inspirational content we can get our hands on.
Until one day, the pace slows, and no matter what we do, we can’t shake the funk. The high of discovery, change, and expansion wears off, and before we know it, we’re surrounded by half-read books, and the idea of having to fix one more thing about ourselves or our lives feels like an impossible chore.
The feeling of diving headfirst into the ocean of self-improvement, only to find yourself drowning is what I call the self-help spiral. Fortunately, after my fair share of it, I’ve discovered a few ways to navigate this treacherous sea without losing sight of the shore.
